James N. Williams III

James N. Williams III started in the Office of Community and Governmental Relations in 2004 as the Assistant Director of Community and Governmental Relations.

Now, as the Senior Director for Local Government Relations, he is responsible for managing  goverment related projects and activities between Pitt, the city of Pittsburgh, and Allegheny County.  His team is the principal source of information on city and county governmental matters, and the institutional point of contact for local governments as well as local municipal elected officials, department administrators, and their staff.  Mr. Williams represents the University's interests on various task forces, where he provides and facilitates communication between Pitt faculty, staff, and students.

James is also a veteran, having served ten years in the United States Air National Guard as a Warehouse Technician and Civil Engineer.  While stationed at Andrews Air Force Base, he  was the Legislative Assistant for U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison on Capitol Hill, where he worked on numerous speeches, bills, and amendments. He is well-versed in constituent inquiries on Small Business, Agriculture, Health/Welfare, Armed Forces and Labor issues.
